HaiTao

Hai Tao is 7 years old. He lives in Funan, about a one and half hour drive away from Fuyang, Anhui. He lives with his mother and brother; his father works in Shanghai. He and his mother are HIV positive and are both on antiretroviral treatment.

He just enrolled in first grade. He was very excited to learn how to write his name, which has many strokes.   [top]

HaoGuo

 

Hao Guo is an energetic 6-year old boy. He lives with his parents and his older brother in Lixin County. His mother became infected with HIV when she received a blood transfusion from giving birth to the older son and is currently on ARVs.

Hao Guo has yet to be placed on ARV treatment. He likes to play with children in the neighborhood and gets along well with his father.   [top]

Hu

Hu is 14 years old. He lives in Funan. When his Dad is away for work in Suzhou, he takes care of his mom and four sisters. Both he and his mother are HIV positive.

Like most teenage boys, he enjoys watching TV, reading comic books and novels, and biking. His favorite subject in school is Chinese, but he doesn’t much enjoy his Math class.   [top]


JinHui

Jin Hui- age 6- is the oldest child we currently care for in Henan. He is introverted, but clever. Both of his parents are HIV positive. His father is currently on tuberculosis treatment and is being closely monitored.    [top]


LingFeng

Ling Feng is 9 years old. He lives in Lixin County, Anhui. His nickname is XiaoMao. He lives with his grandfather and brother. Both of his parents and 3 of his 4 uncles have passed away from HIV/AIDS.

Ling Fong hopes to enroll in school in the near future. His favorite activities are swimming and playing basketball. He likes to eat meat and noodles.  [top]

LongYu

Long Yu-age 5- lives near Xin Xiang, Henan. He laughs a lot and doesn’t like to have his picture taken. When we asked him which character from Journey to the West, a famous Chinese novel, he likes the best, he unconventionally replied, “The monk.”

He likes to eat watermelons and watch TV.     [top]

NaNa

Na Na is 10. She lives in Lixin County with her father. They are both HIV positive and on antiretroviral medication. Unfortunately, her mother passed away from HIV/AIDS in 2000.

When she is not in school, NaNa likes to jump rope and play with dolls. She also likes to read comic books. Her favorite foods are rice and vegetables.    [top]

Pei Yan- age 6- is from XinXiang, Henan. She lives with her father. She loves singing and performing. When she is not in school, she likes to watch cartoons on TV.    [top]
XinXing Xin Xing is a curious and outgoing 6 year old boy. He lives in the mountains near Xin Xiang, Henan with his mother. His favorite foods are watermelons and dumplings. He likes to watch cartoons on TV when he is not in school.   [top]
XueHong

Xue Hong is 8 years old and lives in Funan. She lives with her parents, who are both HIV-positive, one older brother and two older sisters. Among the children, she is the only one with HIV.

In school, her favorite subject is Math. When she is not in school, she likes painting. Her favorite food is rice. As for her favorite color, it is pink, just like her shirt.   [top]

XueYan

Xue Yan- age 9- is in second grade. She lives in Funan County. She lives with her grandmother and sister. Her mother passed away several years ago from HIV/AIDS.

She is quiet and caring. She likes to help her sister with chores around the house.    [top]

Yao Yao is 4 years old. He lives in Funan County with his parents and older brother. Both of his parents are HIV positive. He is yet to be put on antiretroviral medication. His favorite food is candy. He likes to play with toy trucks and the new puppies in his house.   [top]
YanYan Yan Yan-age 6- lives in Xin Xiang, Henan. He lives with his parents. He likes to eat dumplings and cabbage.   [top]
YaoTien Yao Tian is 8 and lives in Funan, Anhui. He lives with his brother, father and grandfather. Yao Tien and his father are HIV positive, and are both taking antiretroviral medication. His mother, unfortunately, passed away from AIDS in 2004. He started first grade last year and looks forward to second grade.    [top]
YuJuan Yu Juan lives with her grandparents and six other cousins in Lixin County. She is 7 years old. Her mother passed away from HIV/AIDS two years ago. Her father is working out of town. Her grandfather is also HIV positive. She likes to play with all of her cousins.   [top]
ZiTing Zi Ting is 5 years old. She lives with her parents and older brother in Lixin county, Anhui. Her mother is HIV positive. She is shy but caring.    [top]
JiaJia Jia Jia lives with his parents, both HIV-positive, and two healthy younger sisters.  His father, a migrant worker in Guangzhou, is very serious about his son’s health as the family already lost a son to AIDS. Sadly his mother is not responding well to the ARVs and is quite sick with little energy.    [top]
Ling Ling lives with her mother, father and young brother. Ling Ling joined the PATS program during the summer of 2010. She is doing well in school with multiple awards for excellent academic performance. In her spare time, she enjoys watching TV and playing badminton. She likes to eat tofu, celery and snacks.     [top]
MengTing Meng Ting  contracted HIV from an HIV-positive neighbor who breastfed her in infancy.  Her mother, father and three siblings are healthy.     [top]
YangYang Yang Yang Yang Yang, though HIV-positive, has not yet began a drug  regimen.   He lives with his healthy father and HIV-positive mother.     [top]
KaiWen Kai Wen lives with her HIV-positive parents and a healthy younger brother.  Both of her parents are currently taking ARV medication, though Kai Wen has yet to start ARV treatment be-cause she is in good health.       [top]
Xue Qiang, who is HIV-positive, lives with his father and older brother, both of whom are healthy.  His mother died from AIDS.  Xue Qiang’s grandmother, who used to care for him, recently died from stomach cancer.  His father has remarried, but lives separately from his wife and their son as she does not want to be near an HIV-positive child.     [top]
YuJie Yu Jie is 4 years old. He lives in Funan with his mother, stepfather and brother. Everyone except for his brother is HIV positive. His father passed away from HIV/AIDS in 2006. He is not yet in need of antiretroviral therapy, but is closely monitored by his caretaker, a community health worker, and doctors for any symptoms that would signal the need to initiate treatment.    [top]
Meng Qing is 11 years old. She lives with her parents and younger brother. She is a very caring sister to her younger brother. Meng Qing joined PATS during the summer of 2010. She enjoys watching TV and drawing. Her favorite food is fruit.  [top
Hui Hui is 16 years old. She lives with her parents. She is very close with both of them and is the spitting image of her mother - from her long beautiful hair and kind face to her jewelry and clothing. The family is very close and loving despite the added stress brought on by the disease.   [top
Lei Yu is 8 years old. He lives with his parents and older brother. He joined PATS in 2010. His favorite activity is watching cartoons and playing with friends.    [top]
  
Wen You is 16 years old. He lives with his grandparents. His father is a migrant worker and isn't home most of the time. His mother passed away from AIDS in 2003. Wen You has an older brother and sister who are both healthy. He likes to play ping pong. His favorite food is chicken.   [top
Dian Dian is 8 years old. She lives with her parents, grandfather, uncle older and younger brothers. She, like her mother, is HIV-positive. The rest of the family is healthy, though her uncle is blind. Dian Dian joined PATS in 2010. She enjoys watching TV and her favorite foods are buns and fruits.    [top
Chao Qi lives with his great grandmother and his grandparents. His parents are both migrant workers in the cities and his older brother is in boarding school. Chao Qi is yet to be placed on ARV medication. He likes to watch TV and ride his bicycle. He likes to eat chicken and pork.    [top]

Hua Long is 11 years old and he lives in the "Happy House", a community of HIV-positive children supported by local partner AOS and PATS. He was abandoned by his mother at a train station. The police who found him brought him to AOS for care. PATS provides Hua Long with nutritional support and regular visits from health workers. He wants to be a policeman when he grows up.    [top]

Zi Hao is 7 years old and he lives in the "Happy House", a community of HIV-positive children supported by local partner AOS and PATS. When Zi Hao lived with his grandfather, they begged on the streets for food. Zi Hao's grandfather loved him dearly, but recognized that he could not provide for him and decided to bring him to the AOS Community Center for care and the opportunity for a better life. Zi Hao loves to sing and dance and is very smart.    [top]
Yue is 7 years old and she lives  in the "Happy House", a community of HIV-positive children supported by local partner AOS and PATS. Originally from Xinjiang province, Yue's parents passed away when she was very young and her adoptive parents decided that they could not take care of her after they found out she was HIV-positive and sent her to AOS. Yue likes to sing and is a very lively child. She takes her music lessons very seriously and never forgets a word in the long songs she memorizes.   [top]
Zhen Zhen is 6 years old and she lives  in the "Happy House", a community of HIV-positive children supported by local partner AOS and PATS. Zhen Zhen was found in a park by a cleaning lady. Her mother left a note asking for a kind family to care for her. She was taken in by a childless family for two weeks but was then moved to AOS when it was discovered that she was HIV-positive. Zhen Zhen is yet to initiate ARV therapy. She is very well-behaved and pays special attention to her singing and drawing classes.    [top]
Jun is 10 years old and he lives  in the "Happy House", a community of HIV-positive children supported by local partner AOS and PATS. His parents passed away when he was young, leaving him in the care of his grandmother. After his grandmother died, Jun was passed among multiple foster families. Jun stars in the Oscar award-winning documentary, "The Blood of Yingzhou District."  He is a lively child but tends to be a little shy. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up.    [top]
